A wild-type axolotl walks across an open silty bottom between small clumps of aquatic vegetation. Its olive-brown skin carries irregular mottling, while the broad head, small dark eyes and burgundy external gills remain clearly visible. Silt, scattered leaves and low plants reveal a broad habitat around the full body and extended tail. Small aquatic shoots dot the bare sediment while the tail extends toward the rear right.
