Leaving the current, a Ganges gharial climbs onto the sandy shore

A Ganges gharial moves from a shallow channel onto a gently sloping shore. One forefoot bears weight on the damp sand while the long tail remains partly in the current. Its narrow snout points slightly upward and the dorsal scutes catch the diffused light. Smooth stones, young green plants and braided river channels extend behind the animal.
